tomorrow is my birthday, and I have to say that I'm not particularly enthusiastic about it

Hmmmm, barby-heart intarsia! The only problem I see is that knitting tends to make stuff squatty because the stitches are rectangular and filet crochet is square like the grids. You could probably fix it by working in an extra row or two here & there.

Try eBay for yarn. Ive been bad and have been buying whole cones of the stuff cheap.
